Garcia, Jaime H. age 78 of Newton, NJ passed away peacefully Tuesday December 6, 2022 at The Canterbury at Cedar Grove following a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, he grew up in Hatillo before moving to the Sunset Park section of Brooklyn, NY. Jaime has resided in Sussex County for the past thirty-two years./p>

Son of the late Monserrate Dorta and Dr. Herminio Garcia, Jaime had earned his Bachelors Degree in Social Science from the InterAmerican University Puerto Rico. He had a long career as a Medicaid Counselor with the Methodist Hospital Brooklyn, NY until his retirement in 2006.

A loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, he enjoyed spending time with his family especially during their many skiing trips and specifically to Killington Vermont. His love of travel also took him throughout Europe with his favorites being Paris France and Italy. An avid reader, he also was a talented woodworker. Mr. Garcia and his family also loved camping, hiking and rafting.

A devout parishioner of the Saint Joseph Roman Catholic Church Newton, NJ, Jaime was predeceased by his sister Elida Diaz. Survivors include his beloved wife of fifty-three years Aurelia, his sons Jaime H. Jr. and his wife Kelly Garcia of Hampton Twp. and David A. and his wife Michele Garcia of Stockholm. Also surviving are his cherished grandchildren Samuel David, Kora Aurelia, David Fox and Ethan James Garcia as well as his step brother Neftali Rosa of Bridgeport, CT.

Visitation will be held Monday December 12, 2022 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM in the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home #156 Main Street (Rt. 206) Newton, NJ 07860. A Christian Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday December 13, 2022 at 9:30 AM in the Saint Joseph RC Church #24 Halsted Street Newton, NJ. Private cremation services will follow. In lieu of flowers memorials in Jaime’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association www.alz.org. Online condolences through www.iliff-ruggierofuneralhome.com.
