Thomas James McKenna
Thomas James McKenna died on Monday, September 26, 2022. Born on September 14, 1944, to Frank and Margaret McKenna. Thomas is the third child of six. He was a kind, funny. patriotic man, who loved his country. He is survived by his two sons, Brian and his wife Laura and their two children Jacob and Sofia, Daniel and his wife Mary and their two children Joseph and Andrew, his former wife Patricia Morra McKenna, his sister Margaret Somerset and brothers Mike and his partner Kathy and John and his wife Suzanne.
Second only to his two sons, Tom was most proud of his military service. He was an honorable member of the distinguished 1st Battalion 9th Marine Division from 1965-1967 where he participated in operations in the Dominican Republic, and later in Vietnam. Tom’s company was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation for their extraordinary heroism which had a causality rate of 92 percent. Ho Chi Min gave his company the name “The Walking Dead”. His family are proud of his patriotism, valor, and courage.
Tom went to Epiphany grammar school in Cliffside Park, Saint Cecilia high school, Englewood and is a graduate of Pace college. Tom raised his family in Sparta NJ enjoying time on Lake Mohawk fishing, swimming, canoeing, and boating. Tom worked for Warner Brothers, United Parcel Service and AT&T Credit Union. He moved to Port St Lucie, Florida, where he trained under privileged boys boxing and self-defense. He enjoyed exercise and belonged to several local gyms.
He was met in eternal glory by his parents, grandparents, sister Eileen, brother Peter as well as countless friends and family. He will be missed by all those who loved him. Graveside funeral services will be held on December 2 at 1:30PM in the Northern New Jersey Veterans Memorial Cemetery #75 North Church Road (Rt. 94 North) Sparta, NJ 07871.
