
Stickle, Cyrus Jr.
Stickle, Cyrus Jr. age 85 of Glade Hill, VA died peacefully May 18, 1926 in the Virginias Veterans Care Center Roanoke, VA. Born May 30, 2926 and raised in the family home in Newfoundland, NJ Cyrus had resided in West Milford, NJ for many years. After his retirement he had lived in Cape Coral FL for twenty years before moving to Virginia seven years ago.
Son of the late Cyrus and Inez I. (Willis) Stickle, Cyrus had attended the one room schoolhouse in Newfoundland, graduated the Butler High School class of 1944 and later was graduated from the McAllister School of Mortuary Science in New York City. A US Navy Veteran serving during WWII aboard the USS Solomons as a Seaman first class, He had served in the Asian Pacific Theater.
A Licensed New Jersey Funeral Director, Cyrus began his profession by serving his apprenticeship with the Moore’s Funeral Home in Paterson, NJ. In 1953 Cyrus opened the Stickle Funeral Home on Union Valley Road Newfoundland and in 1963 relocated to brand new facility on LaRue Road Newfoundland, NJ where he worked tirelessly until his retirement in 1985.
In addition; Cyrus was the Past Superintendent of both the Cedar Heights and the Oak Ridge Cemeteries. Through his Funeral Home, Cyrus had supported many little league teams and local charities throughout the years. Mr. Stickles was a member of the American Legion Post 423 Milton, NJ, the Silentia Masonic Lodge F&AM #168 Butler, NJ, The Passaic County Funeral Directors Association and the New Jersey and National Funeral Directors Associations. Cyrus was also a past member of the Lyons Club of West Milford, Rotary International West Milford NJ.
Pre deceased by a brother Carl Stickle, Survivors include his loving wife of fifty six years Helen S. (Sanders) Stickle, as well as a brother Glenn A. and his wife Joanna Stickle of Sussex, NJ.
Arrangements are private and under the direction of the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home 156 Main St. (Rt. 206) Newton, NJ.
