Paul Leroy States, 87, of Newton, NJ passed away Wednesday September 8, 2021 surrounded by family. Born and resided in Huntington, PA for many years before moving to Newton in 1956. Son of Florence (Hoover) and Theodore States.

Paul joined the United States Army at Camp Kilmer, NJ on October 3, 1951 and was enlisted for 3 years during the Korean War. On September 15, 1954, he was honorably discharged.

He was a Gold Circle lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and member of the American Legion Post 86 where he was a two-time commander.

Mr. States had worked for Sparta Township for 27 years before retiring in 1998. He enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling. He was a member of Newton Primetime Seniors.

Paul was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Maria; daughter, Kathleen States; grandson, Charles F. States; and his brothers, Earl, Melvin, Clifford and sister Margaret.

Paul is survived by his son Frederick P. States and his wife Denise of Stanhope, his daughters Edith E. and her husband Kenneth Rude of Sandyston and Christine M. Lorenzo of Hampton, NJ. Also surviving are his 5 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, his brother Perry States of VA and his sister, Helen Hardy of PA.

Funeral service/visitation will be held Monday, September 13, 2021 from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm in the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home #156 Main St. Newton, NJ. Interment will follow in the Newton Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Paul’s memory may be made to the American Legion Post 86, 20 Yates Ave, Newton,NJ
