States, Maria Audrey
States, Maria Audrey. age 80 of Newton passed away peacefully Sunday January 22, 2017 at the Karen Ann Quinlan Home for Hospice following a long illness. Born in Philadelphia, PA Maria had resided in Huntington, PA for many years moving to Newton in 1956.
Daughter of the late Jan and Dorothy (Talmadge) VanEekelen, she was a dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church of Newton. Mrs. States had worked many years as a Clerk for Selective Insurance Co. of Branchville until her retirement in 1994. She enjoyed spending time with her family and traveling.
She was a member of the Franklin American Legion Ladies Aux as well as the Newton American Legion and the Newton Prime Time Seniors where she had served as Secretary and Vice President.
Maria was pre deceased by her daughter Kathleen, her grandson, Charles F. States and her brother, Theodore VanEeckelen. Survivors include her beloved husband of sixty one years, Paul L. States, her son Frederick P. and his wife Denise States of Stanhope, her daughters Edith E. and her husband Kenneth Rude of Sandyston Twp. and Christine M. Lorenzo of Hampton Twp. Also surviving are her five grandchildren, and her brother William G. Walters of Huntington, PA.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday January 26, 2017 at 10:00 AM in the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home #156 Main St. Newton, NJ. Interment will follow in the Newton Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home Wednesday January 25th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. In lieu of flowers memorials in Maria’s memory may be made to the Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice www.karenannquinlanhospice.org.
