Smith, Leo A.
Smith, Leo A. age 73 of Stanhope, died Thursday January 5, 2012 following a brief illness. Born in Jersey City, NJ he grew up in West New York and had lived and raised his family in Garfield, NJ. Leo had also lived many years in the Lake Lenape Section of Andover Twp before moving to Stanhope three years ago.
Son of the late Leo and Pasquelina (Cerbo) Smith, Leo had served in the US Navy and was stationed in Guantanamo Bay Cuba. A parishioner of the Good Shepherd RC Church Andover, Leo was an avid wood worker/craftsman who had also enjoyed bowling and playing the lottery. A loyal and dedicated Yankee fan, he loved decorating for Christmas especially setting up his extensive Christmas Village collection. A loving and devoted husband, father grandfather and sibling, Leo will be missed.
Mr. Smith had worked many years as a Concrete Mixer with the Teamsters Union for the Glerum Concrete Co. Clifton, NJ. Following his retirement he was the founder and President of the Andover Limousine Service, Leo proudly operated his business for many years as well as driving for other Limousine Services, he enjoyed driving and worked until this past April.
Survivors include his wife Diana (Capp) Smith, his children Linda Padula of Boonton, NJ, Theresa Rossi of Littleton, CO, Michele Tracy of Milton, DE and Richard Smith of Lincoln Park, NJ. Also surviving are his five beloved grandchildren and three brothers.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday evening January 7, 2012 at 8:30 PM in the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home #156 Main St. Newton, NJ 07860.
Visitation will be at the funeral home Saturday from 2-4 and 7-8:30 PM. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Leo’s memory to the American Cancer Society 7 Ridgedale AveSuite 103 Cedar Knolls, New Jersey 07927 or www.cancer.org.
