
Ross, Raymond D. Sr.
Ross, Raymond D. Sr. age 87 of Newton died Sunday Sept. 9th at the Newton Medical Center. Born in Jersey City, NJ to the late William and Mary (McKim), Raymond has lived in Sussex County for many years.
A proud and decorated US Army Air Corps Veteran during WWII, Mr. Ross served in the 13th Air Force in the South Pacific Theater. A recipient of the NJ Distinguished Service Medal, he also served as the Grand Marshal for the 2012 Sussex County Memorial Day Parade. Mr. Ross was a member of the VFW Post 5360 Newton; the American Legion Milford, PA as well as the Disabled American Veterans of Northwest NJ. Mr. Ross Sr. was a Police Officer with the Jersey City and a Lieutenant with the High Bridge Police Departments. Raymond also worked as a Lieutenant with the East Coast Guard Services at the Standard Oil Refinery and also worked as a Security Guard for the Lake Mohawk County Club Sparta. On Sundays, Raymond worked as a Special Officer with the Sparta Police Dept. covering Traffic Control at the Our Lady of the Lake RC Church Sparta.
Pre deceased by two sons Frank and Steven Ross as well as a daughter Helen McKenna, Raymond is survived by his beloved wife of sixty seven years Helen M. (McFeeley); his sons Raymond Jr. Robert, William, David, Patrick, Brian, and John Ross. Also surviving are his daughters Susan Losey and Roseann Sliker, his sister Mary Freck, twenty six grandchildren, forty six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Wednesday September 12th from 2-4 and 7-8:30 immediately followed by funeral services at 8:30 PM in the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home #156 Main St. (Rt. 206) Newton, NJ. Interment will be private.
