
Reisberg, Dr. Jerome L.
Dr. Jerome L. Reisberg DDS, age 93 of Blairstown, NJ died August 1, 2013 at Newton Medical Center. Jerome was born May 21, 1920 in Newark, NJ, then moving to West Orange where he lived until 1976 when he moved to Blairstown. Dr. Reisberg was also a resident of the US Virgin Island of St. Thomas, where he maintained a home.
Jerome graduated from Case Western Reserve School of Dental Medicine in Cleveland, OH in 1943.
He immediately enlisted in the US Army as a Captain. He served during WWII in the 47th Infantry Regiment 9th Infantry Division. His unit was the first to liberate survivors in both Dachau and Nordhausen Concentration Camps in 1945. He witnessed firsthand and documented in photographs the horrible fate of those who survived and those who died.
Let the world never forget these atrocities. Jerome donated those photographs to The United States Holocaust Memorial Museumin Washington, D.C. Undaunted, Jerome had a true zest for life and an adventurous mind. He was an entrepreneur, not only operating his own dental office in West Orange from 1947 until 1976, Jerome also owned and operated Phyldan Construction Company with his brother Leo from 1950 – 1975, he had his real estate license and was the owner/operator of ARKAY Realty in West Orange, NJ for 40 years. Dr. Reisberg served on the Board of Directors serving in an officer’s position as Secretary for the West Orange Savings and Loan Bank, as well as serving on the Board of Directors for the Irvington State Bank. He also was the owner/operator for 30 years of the Springhill Water Care Company of Blairstown, NJ. He was a former member of the Jewish Center of Sussex County and was currently a member of the St. Thomas Synagogue of St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands, where he was named “Hebrew Congregation of St. Thomas Person of the Year” in 2010.
Predeceased by his cherished wife Lillian (Gare) Reisberg in 2003, his parents, Philip and Sarah Resiberg, his brother Leo Reisberg in 2013 and his sister Rose Backer in 1974. Jerome is survived by two sons; Philip C. Reisberg and his wife Kathy of Portland, OR and Dr. David J. Reisberg and his wife Susan of Oak Park, IL, as well as 6 grandchildren.
Arrangements are under the direction of Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home 156 Main Street, Newton, NJ 07860. Graveside Services will be held Sunday August 4, 2013 at 10:00AM at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery in Iselin, NJ.
