Potts, John R. age 82 of Newton, NJ went to be with God on Wednesday September 28th, 2011 surrounded by his family; John had succumbed to a brain hemorrhage after a fall. Born in York, PA to the late Ernest Raymond and Edna Meisenhelder Potts, he grew up there and graduated from the Wm. Penn High School class of 1946.

An avid High School Swimmer and YMCA member, John also played a mean game of Ping Pong. Mr. Potts served in the US Army in the Pacific Theater at the end of WWII. After graduation from the Franklin and Marshall College, receiving his BA in Accounting, Mr. Potts began working for the Caterpillar Corporation where he worked for many years. Later John joined the United Church of Christ Board of Homeland Ministries. Over his thirty eight years with the Church, he assisted the formation, land purchase and building of many churches in new or underserved communities. He was moved to be part of building God’s Kingdom.

ohn and Nancy moved to Bradenton, FL to enjoy retirement. Even there, John became a founding member of the Faith United Church of Christ and helped organize the capitol campaign for their church building

John’s family legacy lives on through his beloved wife of sixty two years Nancy (Shellenberger) Potts, his son John of St. Albins, VT, his daughters Mary Jo Farrell of Burnt Hills, NY, Christine N. Carlile of Tiverton, RI and Amy Testa of Newton, NJ. Also survived by his brother Richard Potts of York, PA as well as his eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Memorial Funeral Services will be held Saturday November 12th, 2011 at 11:00 AM in the Bristol Glen Community Center Chapel #200 Bristol Glen Drive Newton, NJ. Arrangements are under the direction of the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home #156 Main St. (Rt206) Newton, NJ. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Faith United Church of Christ 4850 State Rt. 64 East Bradenton, FL 34208.
