
Onufrak, Stephen
Stephen (“Steve”) Onufrak of Hardyston Twp. passed away peacefully on Wednesday June 15, 2022 at Karen Ann Quinlan Home for Hospice located in Fredon Twp., NJ after a brief illness.
Born in Habura, Czechoslovakia, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Mary (nee Hamalak) Onufrak. He immigrated to the United States at the age of 8 with his parents and his sister Mary. Stephen lived in New York City for a few years, before moving to Clifton and eventually settling in Garfield, NJ with his family. Steve graduated from Garfield High School, and went on to Fairleigh Dickinson University where he received his BS in Finance.
Steve proudly served as a member of the United States Army Reserves for 10 years. Steve had an exemplary career with AT&T Bell Labs working in several different departments, but found his niche working as a Senior Financial Analyst until his retirement in 1995.
From 1966 to 2006, Steve resided in Randolph, NJ with his wife and 3 children. He volunteered as a Randolph Recreational basketball coach for his son Matthew’s team for several years.
Steve had a passion for golf, and was always known to have a kind word and a great sense of humor. A dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather (Pa/Papa), and brother, Steve also enjoyed billiards and cards with his Crystal Springs friends, Uno with his family, and had a great passion for music. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling to many distant places with his wife. Steve will continue to be loved and remembered by all of his family and friends.
Steve is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Denise (nee Nagy) Onufrak, his daughter Dawn and her husband Bernhard Suter of Zurich, Switzerland, his son Matthew Onufrak and his wife Rachel of Dover, NJ, and his son Andrew Onufrak of Dover, NJ. Also surviving are his brother Michael Onufrak and his wife Jo-Jo of Garfield, NJ, his beloved sister Mary and her husband Donald Meseke of St. Charles, IL, his cherished grandchildren Mia, Nikolas, and Anja, and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial visitation will be held on July 30, 2022 from 10-11 AM, with a memorial service beginning at 11 AM in the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home, #156 Main Street (Rt 206) Newton, NJ 07860.
