Elvidge, Norma J.

 In Memorials

Elvidge, Norma J. age 87 of Newton, NJ passed away peacefully and surrounded by her loving family Thursday February 16, 2023 at Bentley Assisted Living Branchville, NJ following a long illness. The daughter of Anthony and Julia (Mariotti) Baldinucci, Norma was born on December 4, 1935, in Jessup, PA, and was raised in Peckville, PA, along with her younger sister, Marilyn.

She attended Blakely High School and graduated in 1953 at the top of her class. It was at Blakely High where she met the love of her life, Edward “Ted” Elvidge. Following graduation, Norma attended and completed cosmetology school, her favorite skill being haircutting.

Norma and Ted were married on September 7, 1957, and settled in Newton, NJ, where they raised their two children, Kevin and Maria, and started a tax business out of their family home—a tax business that endures to this day. Norma worked for many years at Newton’s Halsted Middle School, supporting staff and students alike (including her grandchildren) as part of the front office staff.

Norma’s family enjoyed numerous summer camping trips all across the country in their “pop up” RV.” In later years, Norma would reminisce fondly about these trips with her family. Norma also found joy in crocheting, knitting, and most of all gardening.

Norma is predeceased by her beloved husband and soulmate, Ted, her sister, Marilyn Miller, and her parents Anthony and Julia. She is survived by her loving son, Kevin Elvidge and his partner Judith Foster, and her devoted daughter, Maria Fiedorczyk and husband Mark. She will be forever loved and cherished by her four grandchildren, Anthony Elvidge and wife Jillian, Alyssa Fiedorczyk, Natalie Elvidge and husband Reinhart Meisenheimer, Adam Fiedorczyk, and two great-grandchildren, Juliette and Vivienne Elvidge. Norma is also survived by her beloved nieces, Jennifer Miller and Mary Kay Noto, as well as numerous cousins.

Visitation will be held Wednesday February 22, 2023 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM in the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home #156 Main Street (Rt. 206) Newton, NJ. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday February 23, 2023 at 10 AM in the Saint Joseph Roman Catholic Church #24 Halsted Street Newton, NJ. Interment will immediately follow in the Newton Cemetery. Online condolences through www.iliff-ruggierofuneralhome.com.

Dear Kevin and Maria and families…. I am very sorry to hear of your Mom’s passing. I only crossed paths with her a few times in my life, but every time we did, she was always the sweetest lady. I recall sitting in my car at the Dollar General a few years ago while my fiance was picking up a few things to bring to my Mom’s place. I witnessed her struggling with walking and navigating the steps to her house. I could see it was a challenge, but she courageously accomplished this task, as I am sure she did with countless challenges she endeavored during her lifetime. My Mom worked with her at Halsted Street School and attended church with her at St Joes, and commented on what a great woman and friend she was to her as well. Our Blessings and Prayers. Mrs. Elvidge was a very beautiful, kind and down to earth person. Her husband also shared those remarkable qualities.
She was easy to speak with, compassionate, and had a good sense of humor.
Having fought and won many health battles, she once gave us the best advice ever:
“Go and get a small vacation home and do the things you want to while you are young and can enjoy it”.
No worries, Mrs. Elvidge, we’ve tried to live up to your credo and enjoy all our moments.
Thank you for your wisdom and smiling face!
You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten!

Our sincerest condolences to Kevin & Maria, grandchildren and extended family.

    Lovingly,
    Dee & Michael Cannizzaro
