Miller, Edward Russell
Miller, Edward Russell age 72 of Hampton Twp., NJ died Monday January 21, 2013 in the Newton Memorial Hospital. The son of the late Edward and Mary (McNally) Miller, he was born and raised in Manhattan, NY. Edward had attended the St. Elizabeth Grammar School on Broadway in Manhattan and the Xavier Military High School until his senior year, moving to New Jersey and graduated from the St. Cecilia’s High School.Edward attended St. Peters College in Jersey City, NJ before enlisting in the US Navy in 1962.
Mr. Miller completed his basic training and was the Honor Man at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center. He later served on Whidbey Island and most of his term on Midway Island. Following the Navy, Edward served in the Reserves for seven more years and began working as a Mechanic with the Curtis Wright Corp. Later he worked for the North Jersey Transfer Inc, Condit Motors as well as being self employed. Edward was an outgoing man with a sense of humor.
He enjoyed conversations and went out of his way to help people. A member of the VFW of Goshen, NY he also enjoyed working in the Pit at the racetrack. An unconventional jokester, He lived his life adventurously. Survivors include his beloved wife Barbara (Leek), his daughter Carol and her husband David DeRitter of Manville, stepdaughter Cathy and her husband Walter Gessner, stepsons Alex and his wife Cindy Klein, Bill and his wife Danielle Klein, Tom and his wife Laura Klein, as well as his sister Joan and her husband Tom Sudol, and family members Diana Vander Pas, Meg Miller, his twenty one Grandchildren who called him “Pop Pop, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be held Friday January 25, 2013 at 2 PM in the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home #156 Main St. (Rt. 206) Newton, NJ. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the services. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Mrs. Barbara Miller.
