Dr. William Henry McWalters, age 78, passed away on Monday, May 29th, 2017, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah, Georgia, following a long illness. William is the son of the late William H. and Helena (Beecher) McWalters. He was born in Orange, NJ, and grew up in Belleville. He lived for many years in Jefferson Twp., moving in the early 70’s Frankford Township and recently retiring to Savannah.

He was an active Boy Scout and attended the Centennial Camporee, traveling by train across the United States. He also was active in youth activities at Fewsmith Memorial Presbyterian Church and in the Bellville Chapter of DeMolay. A graduate of Belleville High School, William went onto earn his BS at Rutgers University in 1961 followed by his D.D.S. from Farleigh Dickinson School of Dentistry in 1965.

Dr. McWalters practiced dentistry for over fifty years in his Jefferson Township office. He also owned a travel agency. He was a longtime member, two term president and Paul Harris Fellow with the Jefferson Twp. Rotary Club. William was also a past active member of the Frankford Township Board of Education, Branchville Businessmen, and served on the NJ State board as a representative for the NJ Morgan Horse Association.

William was pre-deceased by a daughter, Dawn Noel McWalters in 2001. He is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-seven years, Helen (Talignani) McWalters whom he met on their first day in high school. Also survived by his daughters, Deborah Helen McWalters, Lynn Ellen Gailie, and his son, William Henry and his wife Gina McWalters III. Grandchildren; Adam J. Wilpert, Amy Wilpert Pierce and her husband Tyler Pierce, Kelly A. Combs, Timothy C. Gailie, Kevin R. Loiodice, David R. and Dean W. Gould, William H. IV, Kenneth and Alyiah McWalters, as well as his great-grandchildren; Elizabeth, William V, Leif John, Ryder Jude, Torren William and Evelyn Dawn. William is also survived by his sisters Barbara Lalavee and Beverly Gaglione as well as several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 16th, 10:00 – 12:00 at the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home, 156 Main Street (Route 206) Newton, NJ. Interment services will immediately follow in the Frankford Plains Cemetery.
