
Matilda S. “Tillie” Thur
Thur, Matilda S. “Tillie” age 72 of Andover Twp., NJ died unexpectedly Monday September 27th 2010 at her home. Born in Elizabeth, NJ she has lived in Andover Twp., since the early 1960’s.
Daughter of the late Felix and Catherine (Dobrowolski) Magierowski, Tillie graduated the St. Hedwig’s Elementary School and was later graduated from the Battin All Girls High School Elizabeth, NJ. After High School, she worked as a Secretary for Phelps Dodge Elizabeth, NJ. Tillie married her first husband the late Anthony Puma (who died in 1970) and they were the owner and operators of Ant-Til’s Restaurant in Linden, NJ.
After relocating to Andover Twp., they purchased Stewarts Root Beer on Rt. 206 Andover, where she operated this successful restaurant for over forty years until her retirement in 2003. A parishioner of the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel RC Church in Swartswood, NJ Mrs. Thur was a loving and devoted Wife, Mother, grandmother and friend who’s caring and compassionate spirit will be missed by everyone who knew and loved her.
Mrs. Thur was also pre deceased by her brothers Walter, Paul, Michael, John and Frank Magierowski, as well as her sisters Mary Daly, Helen Terrien and Dorothy Ogonowski, Matilda is survived by her second husband Edward Thur of Andover Twp., her sons Anthony and his wife Shereen M. Puma of Arvada, CO, and Kevin P. and his wife Robin Puma of Hackettstown, NJ. Also surviving are her daughters TraciAnne and her husband Christopher Dube of Hampton Twp., and Joellen and her husband Christopher Carrer of Andover Twp., her grandchildren Michael, Nicole and Justin Dube, Nicholas and Reese Puma. Tillie is also survived by her brother Edward and his wife Blanche Magierowski, her sisters Stephanie Magierowski and Josephine and her husband John Mularz as well as many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday October 1, 2010 at 10:30 AM in the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel RC Church Swartswood, NJ. Interment will follow in the Clove Cemetery Wantage Twp., NJ. Visitation will be held Thursday September 30, 2010 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM in the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home #156 Main St. Newton, NJ.
