Lulek, Susan J., age 81 of Frankford Township, NJ passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at the Bentley Assisted Living Center in Branchville, NJ.

Daughter of the Late Salvatore Balsamo and Catherine (Tedesco) Ricci, Susan was a loving mother, talented vocalist, and a devoted worker. As a child, she attended PS 104 in NYC, St. Dominic’s Convent of Blauvelt, NY, St. Patrick’s Cathedral HS, NYC, Washington Irving HS of NYC, and graduated from Montclair State University in 1981 with a BA in Economics.

A talented vocalist, Susan performed on stage with Scotty & Jackson Studios in NYC when she was just 4 years old. She led the children in singing the daily tribute to the American Flag at St. Dominic’s Convent; she won her first awards for solo singing with a harp in 1966 and 1969 at United Irish Counties Feis in the Bronx. Following the acceptance of these awards, Mrs. Lulek performed at the Carnegie Recital Hall, NYC, and the Manhattan Center as well as the County Cork Ladies’ Society. Susan was a soloist for St. Vincent Ferrer RC Church in Brooklyn for 12 years, St. Aloysius RC Church, NJ, for 21 years, the St. Catharine of Sienna Church, Exeter, Choir, and Cantor for 7 years, and she was a member of the St. Ignatius Loyola RC Church Choir.

A dedicated worker, Susan worked for 5 years as a telephone operator for NY Telephone Co., she worked with Blue Cross Blue Shield of NY as an Administrative Secretary, Public Affairs, where she initiated an employee chorus that still performs to this day. She also worked for St. Michael’s Medical Centre as an Executive Secretary and Administration, and after her retirement, she was a Guest Teacher for the Reading School District.

Predeceased by her husband, Joseph S. Lulek, Susan is survived by her sons, Joseph Michael and Robert Joseph Lulek, and her daughters Christine Marie Lulek Olsen, Karen Jean Mary Lulek Luglio, and Allison Marie Lulek Given. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren, Daniel Olsen, Robert Perino, Andrew Luglio, Diana Elizabeth Lulek, Curt Hoy, Evan Lulek, and Aislin Victoria Given.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, April 2nd, 2011 at 11:30 AM in the St. Ignatius Loyola RC Church, Sinking Spring, PA. Visitation will be held Friday, April 1st, 2011 at the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home, 156 Main Street (Route 206) Newton, NJ from 2 to 4 PM and from 7 to 9 PM.
