Laing, Margaret Melissa, aged 93 a long time resident of Lake Tranquility, NJ died peacefully at home April 22, 2018 after a long illness with family at her side. She was the daughter of the late William Charles Schmieder and Susie Almira Matteson and granddaughter of the late Charles Schmieder and Ida Theresa Sophia Lange and Edward E. Matteson and Sarah Frances Brown. Margaret was born in East Orange, NJ.

Growing up at Edgar St. East Orange, she was a Ballet dancer and soloist with her mother. She graduated from East Orange High School in 1942 and attended FDU to study English.

Several years later, Margaret was married on September 18, 1949 at St. Georges Episcopal Church in Maplewood, NJ to James August Laing, son of James Laing and Mae Zeevalk.

James and Margaret lived in West Orange for over 10 years before moving up to Sussex County in the early 1960’s in Sparta, NJ. They then moved to Lake Tranquility and have been residents ever since. James and Margaret have been long time members of Christ Episcopal Church and Choir. Margaret was also a member of Eastern Star Lincoln Chapter 95 of Livingston, NJ and a past Grand Matron and celebrated 75 years this year. James and Margaret were married for 63 years before James passed on. Margaret worked at various places such as Monroe and Ayers & Seely in Andover as a bookkeeper.

She is predeceased by her husband James and a son William C. Laing, brothers, Edward, William, Robert and a sister Wilma Coutant and her parents. She is survived by son’s David James of Trenton and Twin brother Daniel Earl and his wife Kyle of Belmar, James Edward of Lake Tranquility and Jonathan Paul and wife Laura of Andover. She also had a daughter Susan Elizabeth Latham and husband Richard of Stillwater. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, nephews, nieces and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Saturday April 28, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the Christ Episcopal Church #62 Main St. Newton, NJ. Interment will immediately follow in the Tranquility Cemetery #25 Maple Lane Road Tranquility, NJ. Visitation will be held Friday April 27th, 2018 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM in the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral home 156 Main St (Rt.206) Newton, NJ 07860. In lieu of flowers, Memorials in Margaret’s memory can be made to Christ Episcopal Church Choir in Newton, NJ. or Dementia Society at
