Michael Edward Kostelnik, M.D., age 76 of Andover Twp., died unexpectedly Sunday, December 11, 2016 at the Morristown Medical Center following a brief illness. Born and raised in the South side of Bethlehem, PA, Michael has lived in Andover Township since 1972.

Son of the late Michael C. and Josephine (Blahut) Kostelnik, Michael was a graduate of the Bethlehem Catholic High School class of 1957. He went on full scholarship to earn his Bachelor of Arts Degree with a minor in Biology from Lehigh University in 1961.

In 1965 he was graduated again on full scholarship from Johns Hopkins University earning his Medical degree in Internal Medicine, followed by his Internship with the University of Pittsburg from 1965 to 1966.

Drafted into the United States Air Force, he served on the Edwards Airforce Base as Flight Surgeon during the Vietnam War. After his service, Dr. Michael began his career in Internal Medicine, practicing with the Roxbury Medical Group in Succasunna as well as his private practice for many years until his retirement in 2012.

An avid reader, Michael loved traveling all over the world, as well as following his alma mater Lehigh University football and wrestling teams. A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, and Physician, Dr. Kostelnik enjoyed time with his family and will truly be missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

Dr. Kostelnik was pre-deceased by his sisters Doris Amick and Jeannie Schleppy as well as his brothers Edward, Charles, and Richard, and granddaughter Holly Hunt. Survivors include his beloved wife of fifty-four years Carla (DeNardo), his sons Daniel of Andover Twp. and Leo and his wife Megan Matson of Bolinas, CA, his daughters Dr. Jane Kostelnik and her husband James Brown of the UK, and Nell and her husband Randy Gould of Andover Twp. Also surviving are his seven cherished grandchildren.

Memorial visitation will be held Saturday December 17, 2016 from 10:30 to noon immediately followed by Memorial Services at noon in the Iliff- Ruggiero Funeral Home 156 Main St. (Rt. 206) Newton, New Jersey. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the North Jersey Veterans Memorial Cemetery PO Box 82 Sparta, NJ 07871.
