Koerber, Joan C. age 82 of Hampton Twp., NJ formerly of the Vailsburg Section of Newark, NJ died Thursday December 29th, 2011 at the Morristown Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

Born in Newark, she had resided there for many years. Mrs. Koerber had maintained a summer home in Hampton Twp., before moving there full time in 1995.Daughter of the late George and Catherine (Donahue) Callanan, Joan was very proud to be a graduate of the former Newark State University, Kean College receiving her Masters Degree in Education; in addition she played on the College Basketball team. Mrs. Koerber was a dedicated School Teacher for the Lincoln School in Newark, NJ for many years until her retirement. She was a member of the NJEA as well as the National Honors Society for teachers.

A loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sibling, Joan was very proud of her grandchildren and their respective sports and activities. An active parishioner of the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel RC Church Swartswood, NJ, Mrs. Koerber was also a member of the Columbiettes.

Joan is survived by her beloved husband of fifty nine years John C., her son John C. of Hampton Twp., her daughter Joanne C. Ashton of Blairstown, NJ, her grandchildren Jessica and Jeremy Koerber and Carlton John “CJ” and Alexis Rose Ashton, as well as her brothers Robert and Ronald Callanan both of Florida.

A memorial Mass will be held Tuesday January 3, 2012 at 10AM in the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church #203 Swartswood Rd. Swartswood, NJ 07877. Arrangements are under the direction of the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home #156 Main St. Newton, NJ 07860.
