Kock, Virgil J. age 81 formerly of Newton, passed away Wednesday May 30, 2018 in the Mt. Arlington Senior Assisted Living Center following a long illness. Born in Hendricks, MN, Virgil grew up in Elkton, SD. He had also lived in Chicago, IL before moving to Newton in 1961.

Son of the late Harvey and Minnie (nee Schimmel) Kock, Virgil was a graduate of the Elkton SD High School and had proudly served in the United States Air Force as well as the US Army National Guard for twenty-two years. A professional mechanic, he was the owner/operator of The Shop in Newton for many years and later retired from the County of Sussex after ten years as a mechanic in 1998.

Mr. Kock was a loyal and dedicated member of the Newton Fire Department for twenty-five years as well as the Newton Volunteer First Aid and Rescue Squad for over thirty years. A member of the Newton Moose Lodge #432, Virgil was an avid motorcyclist who enjoyed extensive rides with his wife Jane, throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Mr. Kock was pre-deceased by his brothers Donald and Loren Kock, as well as his sister Lois Murtaugh. Survivors include his beloved wife Jane (nee Pierson) Kock, his daughters Tayo and her husband Max Euston of Andover Township, and Tonja and her husband John Christopher of Dingmans Ferry, PA. Also surviving are his sister Shirley Jensen of Madison, WI, his grandchildren Shaun Fletcher, Shannon Masnaghetti, Justin and his wife Katie Christopher, Katrina Zelosko, Morgan and Tanner Euston, as well as his great grandson Hunter Virgil Masnaghetti.

Visitation will be held Wednesday June 6th 2018 from 2-4PM and 7-9PM in the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home #156 Main St. (Route 206) Newton, NJ. Newton Fire Department services will be held Wednesday evening at 8PM. Funeral Services will be held Thursday June 7th at 10AM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Virgil’s memory may be made to the non-profit Wounded Warrior Project (https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org).
