Kaplan, E. George age 77 of Layton, NJ died peacefully Monday January 20, 2014 in the Bristol Glen, Newton, NJ. George grew up in Brooklyn and had lived in Clifton, NJ before moving to Towaco where he had lived for twenty six years. As a child Mr. Kaplan had spent his summers at Lake Hopatcong and has resided in Layton for the past twelve years. Son of the late J. George and Jocelyn (Ahbrams) Kaplan, George was a graduate of the Rider College receiving his degree in Business in 1958. Mr. Kaplan was an Insurance Professional and had worked in his family’s business the J. George Kaplan Insurance Co. #225 Broadway New York, NY for many years before his retirement. A long time member and past Secretary for the Towaco Vol. Fire Dept., George was an avid creative woodworker. He also enjoyed reading and the outdoors.
George had a love of boating from his summers on the lake and the Delaware River, and combined his woodworking skills to build his own boats.A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother, George was pre deceased by his sister Madylon VanVort. Survivors include his beloved wife Judy (Slifkin) Kaplan, his sons Josh and his wife Leah of North White Plains, and Andrew and his long time girlfriend Tisha Garrett of Mays Landing, as well as his two cherished grandchildren. Memorial funeral services will be held Thursday January 23, 2014 at 11:00 AM in the Iliff Ruggiero Funeral Home, 156 Main Street, Newton, N.J.
