DeVoid, Jean Catherine age 94 of Wantage Twp., NJ passed away Sunday November 13, 2022 in the Newton Medical Center following a short illness. Born in Saint Joseph Hospital in Paterson, NJ, Jean grew up and had lived most of her life in the Mountainview section of Wayne Township, before moving to Wantage Twp. ten years ago.

Daughter of the late Amos Felker and Margaret Beatrice (nee MacDonald) Brubaker, Jean was a graduate of the Pompton Lakes High School class of 1946. Jean went on to earn her Bachelors Degree in Education from Paterson State Teacher’s College in 1950. She began her teaching career with the Cedar Grove NJ School system. After she got married, she briefly taught in Oceanside, California and then in Goshen VT which was a “One Room Schoolhouse” where she taught multiple grades together. After a brief time being a home maker raising 3 children, she was a part of a group of women that started a nursey school program with the United Methodist Church of Wayne. She was a teacher there for over 40 years, retiring at the age of 80 years old.

A lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, she was active for most of her years with the Wayne United Methodist Church. She also was a member of the Wantage United Methodist Church after moving to Wantage about 10 years ago.

Jean was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister who enjoyed taking care of animals and reading, but most of all spending time with her family, grand and great grandchildren. She had a passion in spending time with preschool aged children along with following the New York Yankees and Giants. She enjoyed spending summers at her second home in Lake Dunmore, Vermont. This is where she met her husband Howard in the early 50’s.

Jean was predeceased by her husband Howard in 2015, her daughter Margaret DeVoid in 2022 as well as her brother Robert Brubaker. Survivors include her sons Howard and his wife Diane DeVoid of Wantage Twp., and Frank DeVoid of Clayton, NC. Also surviving are her grandchildren Heather and her husband Ryan Fischer, Andrew DeVoid, Todd DeVoid and his wife Michelle, Tyler and Patrick DeVoid. She also leaves behind 5 great grandchildren Adelaide, Colette and Oakley Fischer, Andreia Jean DeVoid and Linden DeVoid. She also leaves behind her beloved cat Amos.

    We were so sorry to hear about our old neighbor. We actually knew all of their children as we grew up right next-door to them in Wayne. Our children were younger than theirs but we used them as our baby sitters; a beautiful family.Our thoughts and prayers are with you on a most trying time
