Iverson, Donald Young
Iverson, Donald Young “Don” of Hackettstown, NJ. Following a lengthy and courageous battle, Don succumbed to Parkinson’s disease on October 16, 2012.
The youngest of six children, he was born to the late Oliver Sr. and Etta Mae (Vreeland) Iverson on August 29, 1929.
Don was an avid hunter and enjoyed this sport during open deer season, at his Belgrade Lakes Lodge in Maine. He was a multi talented electrician, carpenter, woodworker and furniture maker.
Throughout the years, he and his wife Dolly, worked as a team buying, refurbishing and renting out “Handyman Special” properties.
Don was a veteran of the Korean War. He retired from the Warner-Lambert Pharmaceutical Company following 35 years of service as a Maintenance Supervisor and was awarded special commendation for an innovative machinery invention.
Don belonged to a number of clubs including: Mt. Lakes St. John’s Lodge #1, The Andover, Newton, St. Jude and the Sandyston Seniors as well as the Hanover Squares. He volunteered in the Meals on Wheels program as well. He also performed at Nursing Homes with the Western line dancing group.
He and Dolly enjoyed traveling, both in the States and abroad. They also liked entertaining friends, ballroom dancing and playing cards. He lived in Mendham, Andover Twp and Newton before retiring to Heath Village, Hackettstown.
Don was pre-deceased by siblings Oliver Jr., Harry, Frank, Linda and Tom.
He is survived by his wife and loving caregiver, Clementeen “Dolly” Delp-Iverson, children David, Donna Buckley, Susan Anderson, step-daughter Dr. Mindy Delp-Miserendino, three grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
At his request, cremation and memorial service were private.
Family and friends are welcome to make donations in his name to the Heath Village Friendship Fund 430 Schooley’s Mountain Rd., Hackettstown, NJ 07840. Arrangements are under the direction of the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home #156 Main St. (Rt. 206) Newton, NJ.
