Horodeck, Doris Marie (Klewin) age 92, of Willow Brook Farm in Wykertown, died in the early morning hours on Friday after a long illness. A strong presence in the family for all of her nine decades, she will be sadly missed. A long-time resident of Sussex County, Mrs. Horodeck and her husband purchased and restored the “old Wyker House” (c. 1808) and settled in Wykertown in 1958. She worked alongside her husband as a copywriter in his graphic design and advertising business and, in 1980, they also established Willow Brook Christmas Tree Farm which operated for more than 30 years. Mrs. Horodeck loved to dance and especially enjoyed dancing with her husband.

Doris attended the First Presbyterian Church of Branchville, where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the Daisy Roe Chain.

Mrs. Horodeck was pre-deceased by her husband, Harry Horodeck Sr. (2001); a grandson, Dorian Horodeck; a sister, Louisa Rose Swenson; and two brothers, Charles and Louis Klewin.

Doris is survived in life by her son, Harry Horodeck, Jr. and his wife Jeanette, of Cape Coral, FL; her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Mike Opilla, of Wykertown; two grandsons and their wives, Michael Harry “Cully” and Joanna Opilla, also of Wykertown; and Corbin Drew and Alicia Opilla, of Wantage and two great-granddaughters, Gwendolyn Rose Opilla and Aeliana Mae Opilla.

Visitation for Doris will be held in the family home and friends are welcome to attend. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 23 from 1 – 4 PM and from 6 – 8 PM at 138 Wykertown Road, Branchville, NJ 07826. A graveside Funeral Service will be conducted on Thursday, January 24 at 11 AM in the Branchville Cemetery Pines Rd. Branchville, NJ. In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Horodeck asked that a donation be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Branchville, or to the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine.
