Gervey, Bernard H.
Gervey, Bernard H. age 87 of Andover Twp., NJ passed away peacefully Saturday February 10, 2018 following a brief illness. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY – Bernie raised his family in Levittown, NY before spending many years in Hicksville, NY. He eventually moved to Andover Twp., NJ in 2014.
Son of the late Irving and Rebecca (nee Kahn) Gervey, Bernie was a graduate of the Brooklyn Poly Technical School and served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Bernie enjoyed a long career as a talented Commercial Artist, most notably working on New York City’s first rendering of the City Subway Map.
Bernie enjoyed sculpting, gardening, playing golf at Cantiague Park in Long Island and very much enjoyed spending time with his family. He was predeceased by his brother Melvin Gervey and his former wife, Sandra Gervey.
Survivors include his son Joshua M. and his wife Margaret of Lafayette, NJ, Benjamin M. and his wife Constance Kim-Gervey of Portland, OR as well as his daughter Jennifer S. and her husband Thomas Carriero of Levittown, NY. Also surviving are his grandchildren Kate, Joshua, Thomas, Ethan, Sophie and Bella as well as his nephew Robert Gervey.
A memorial visitation will be held on March 4, 2018 from 2-5 PM immediately followed by a celebration of life at 5:00 PM in the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home #156 Main St. (Rt. 206) Newton, NJ. Online condolences through www.iliff-ruggierofuneralhome.com
