Clayton, Richard W. Sr.
Richard William Clayton, Sr., died peacefully at home on Monday, July 7, 2014 under the care of the Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice. Born in Livingston, NJ Richard has resided in Hampton Twp. NJ for many years.
Son of the late William Arthur and Dorothy (Meier) Clayton; Richard had served in the US Marine Corps in the Mediterranean. He was a proud retiree of the NJ State Police and was a Detective for the Warren County Prosecutors office. A founding charter member of the NJ Chapter IX Blue Knights he enjoyed many hours in his lifetime on his beloved Harley Davidson Motorcycles. Richard served as a volunteer for the Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice as a patient family volunteer and supported all Charitable Events – most notably the Annual Dales Chilly Chili ride. A kind and gentle giant of a man, he gave generously to so many and will be missed tremendously.
Beloved husband of Cecelia Clayton, he is also survived by his children Richard, Lisa and her husband Kurt Stromp. Also surviving as his grandchildren Lindsay, Nicholas and Abigail Clayton, and Julianne Bursee as well as the mother of his children, Estelle and her husband Carl Lehmkuhl; his stepchildren Charlene and her husband Thomas Molnar, Daniel Perciballi and Jessica Perciballi, his step grandchildren Evan, Sean and Aidan Molnar, his sister Judy Delapenha, his niece Terry Stella, his cousin Elaine and her husband Orie Corino, and his daughter in law Erin Clayton.
A Funeral Mass will be held Friday July 11, 2014 at 10:30 AM in the Our Lady Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church Branchville, NJ. Visitation will be held Thursday July 10th from 4-8 PM in the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home #156 Main St. (Rt. 206) Newton, NJ. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Richard’s name will be gratefully accepted by the Joseph T. Quinlan Bereavement Center. #99 Sparta Ave, Newton, NJ 07860.
