Carelli, Ann M.
Ann Carelli, who was born in Massachusetts, grew up on Staten Island, and lived in New Jersey for the past 33 years, died early in the evening of July 10th, her 76th birthday.
She graduated from St. Louis Academy, CUNY, and Rutgers University, where she earned an MSW. She was licensed and certified in her field. Social work was a second career for Ann. She had worked for the State of New York in the Human Resources Department of South Beach Psychiatric Center for most of her early career while studying at night.
Ann is survived by her son, Stephen J. Linane. She was preceded in death by her son Kevin P. Linane, Jr., and her parents, Joseph and Estelle Carelli. She is also survived by her brother Francis Carelli (Esta), and her sisters Marie Tordik (Charles), Martha Asinobi, and Donna Hoffman (Jonathan), her nieces & nephews, her grandnieces & grandnephews, and her best friend from high school Mary Ann LaSalle Speenburgh.
After Ann retired, she volunteered at The Church of the Messiah in Chester, most notably as a Vestry member and at St. Elsie’s Closet, the parish’s thrift shop. Ann also enrolled in Education for Ministry (EfM), and graduated after the requisite four years.
She loved babies and animals, and she rescued countless dogs and several cats throughout her life. Undoubtedly, all who knew and appreciated Ann will remember her lively sense of humor and her colorful vocabulary.
The family wish to thank the Rev. Margaret Otterburn, Rector of The Church of the Messiah, for her unfailing support of and ministry to Ann throughout her lengthy decline.
Any donations in Ann’s memory are requested for either: Church of the Messiah’s Rector’s Fund for the Needy #50 State Route 24W Chester, NJ 07930 (Messiahchester.org) or to Rawhide Rescue
