Blackman, David Albert
Blackman, David Albert age 83 of Andover, NJ died Friday March 4, 2016 at the Saint Clare’s Hospital Denville, NJ following a long illness. Born in Montclair, he grew up in Wharton and had lived many years in West Orange and the Union City Section of Garwood, NJ. A resident of Andover since 2012, Mr. Blackman was the son of the late Walter and Edith (Edwards) Blackman. David was proud of the fact his father had worked with Thomas Edison.
A graduate of the Wharton High School class of 1951, David proudly served in the US Army as a Corporal and a Tank Operator during the Korean War. Mr. Blackman had a long and satisfying career as a skilled industrial welder and machinist, retiring from the Cooper Matrix Medical Corp, PA. A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother, David most enjoyed spending time with his family.
Pre deceased by his beloved wife of forty three years, Phyllis L. (Gibson) Blackman in 1996 as well as a sister Doris Banfield in 2007, David is survived by his son Curtis A. Blackman of Newton and his daughter Kathleen and her husband Mark Frolich of Andover Twp. Also surviving are his grandchildren Mark David, Brett Evan and Kali Marie Frolich as well as his niece Barbara Capuano as well as his nephew Walter Banfield and brother in law Clifford Gibson of Wall Twp., NJ.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday March 9, 2016 at 10:30 AM in the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home #156 main St. (Rt. 206) Newton, NJ. Interment will follow in the Rosedale Cemetery Linden, NJ. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Tuesday March 8th from 7 to 9 PM.
