Robert George Greer

Robert Greer, 63, of Newton, NJ died February 27, 2008 at home after a brief battle with brain cancer.  He was born Jan 31, 1946 in Plainfield, NJ, son of the late Clifford Vernon Greer and Lillian Nielsen Greer Bertholf. He was raised in Plainfield and graduated in 1964 from Plainfield HS.  In 1965 he enlisted in the US Marine Corps and served two tours of duty in Vietnam.  He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Vietnamese Service Medal with one star. After an honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, Bob settled in Delaware Water Gap, PA.  There he ran the New Morning Craft Gallery for several years and honed his skill as a leather craftsman. An accomplished leather artisan for many years, one of his original handbag designs was featured on the cover of the December 1999 issue of The Crafts Report.  His hobbies included working in his garden, taking long walks with his dogs and playing blues guitar. He leaves his wife, Kim Latham, of Newton, his daughter, Deya New Morning Greer, of Albany, N. Y., two stepsons, Ryan and Justin Archer of Newton, two grandchildren, Max and Quinn McGovern, also of Albany, his mother, Lillian Bertholf of Williamstown, MA., his sister, Beverly Langeveld of Vernon, VT., and his beloved pets. A memorial service will be held at Church of the Mountain in Delaware Water Gap, on Saturday, March 7 at 1:00 pm followed by a reception at The Deer Head Inn.   In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Craft Emergency Relief Fund at www.craftemergency.org or Make-A-Wish Foundation at www.wish.org.

Rob and I so so sorry to hear of our dear friend's passing. We thought so much of him and think of him often. Robbie, Rip and Robert had a lot in common,talking vietnam stories at all of the shows. Kim,& family, we are very sorry that we couldn't make it to see you.
