John Signorelli

John V. Signorelli, age 88 a 1939 graduate of the NY State Institute of Applied Agriculture, Farmingdale, N.Y., majoring in Animal Husbandry and Dairying. He was a Supervising Field Public Health Sanitarian in the Country Milk Inspection Division of the New York Department of Health, overseeing the duties of various inspectors throughout the New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania milk producing areas.

In 1976, his post retirement employment included Quality Control Supervisor for Dairy Queen of New Jersey and also for Farmland Dairies in Wallington, NJ. He had been employed by the Sussex County Health Department and retired in March 2000. He had also been an associate of the A.N. Lockwood Agency, Newton, New Jersey.

Locally, Signorelli was also active in the Town of Newton, having been a Board of Health member for seven years and its chairman for six of those years. In 1996 he was appointed by the State of New Jersey to serve as commissioner on the Newton Housing Authority. He served as vice chairman during his five year term.

Mr. Signorelli was also presented with the Newton Senior Citizen of the Year 2000 award by the Newton Town Council. He was a Charter member of the Newton First Aid and Rescue Squad and had been a Merit Badge Counselor in Public Health for the Morris County District of the Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of the New York State Association of Milk & Food Sanitarians and past president of the Metropolitan Dairy Technology Society. During World War II he served three and a half years in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, having attained the rank of 2nd Lieutenant in the Medical Administrative Corps.

He is survived by his loving wife Teresa. They were married for 65 years. Four children, Rita Signorelli Pappas of Princeton, NJ, Gloria Signorelli Berry of New York City, NY, John Signorelli of Laguna Beach, CA and Mark Signorelli of Olivette, Missouri, four grandchildren, Sarah Pappas, James Pappas, Lucas Signorelli and Christopher Berry and one great grandchild James Pappas.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009 at 10:00 am at the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home, 156 Main Street (Rte 206), Newton, NJ. Entombment will follow in the St. Josephs RC Church Cemetery, Newton, NJ. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Monday, September 21, 2009 from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 pm.
