| Rudolph J. Spatarella Spatarella, Rudolph J. “Rudy” age 77 of Stillwater, died Friday June 27th, 2008 at the Newton Memorial Hospital following a long illness. Born in Manhattan, Rudolph grew up and lived many years in the Lower East Side. He also resided in Astoria Queens for seventeen years, and after spending many summers in Stillwater, NJ he moved there permanently in 1971. Son of the late Antonio and Stella (Dente) Spatarella, Rudolph graduated from St. Patrick’s Elementary School NY, NY in 1943. He was later graduated from the Straubennuller Textile High School NY, NY in 1947. Rudolph also attended the Pace College in Manhattan working towards his degree in Business. A Sergeant in the US Marine Corps he was one of the first post WWII draftees to serve during the Korean War. A parishioner of the Our Lady of Mt Carmel RC Church Swartswood, Mr. Spatarella was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many. He was an avid writer and had several published works including many articles for the New Jersey Herald. A diverse man, he enjoyed music, the arts, history, archeology, philosophy as well as politics. Rudolph loved Sussex County for all of its beauty and was always concerned about environmental issues. He enjoyed hiking, hunting and the great outdoors. A long time member and officer of the Historical Society of Stillwater Twp., Mr. Spatarella had worked many years for the IEEE Printing Co. of Manhattan. He later worked for fourteen years with the Selective Insurance Co. of Branchville, until his retirement in 1993. Pre deceased by five siblings, he is survived by his wife of fifty-four years Tina (Lentini) and his daughters Suzanne C. Wallace of Montague, and Lisa C. Kivler of Dingmans Ferry, PA. Also survived by his brother Arthur Spatarella of Somers Pt., NY and his sisters Margaret Savino of Brooklyn, NY and Theresa Lodico of Maspeth, NY. Rudolph is also survived by his five grandchildren and many, many nieces and nephews. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday July 1, 2008 at 10:00 AM in the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel RC Church Swartswood. Entombment will follow in the St. Joseph Church Cemetery Mausoleum Newton, NJ. Visitation will be held Sunday June 29th and Monday June 30th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM in the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home 156 Main St. (Rt. 206) Newton, NJ.
